Cloud computing has helped businesses operate at higher levels of efficiency amidst the COVID-19 pandemic. As most businesses have been forced to work remotely, cloud has played an important role in providing services to scale up operations for various businesses.
As people have started availing services from online shopping platforms during lockdown, scaling up has become an absolute necessity for e-commerce platforms. Platforms who did not have a cloud infrastructure in place have had to shut down their websites as several customers tried accessing the platform at the same time. However, those businesses who have a robust cloud infrastructure have been able to scale up operations to cater to the growing demands of customers, thus thriving in times of a global crisis.
Cloud based business level applications have helped employees collaborate with co-workers while working remotely. Cloud connected machinery and factories have helped businesses manage operations without any human interaction. Public cloud has also helped video conferencing, gaming and streaming video companies to meet the unprecedented growth in demand. Online entertainment platforms like Netflix have seen major profits, thanks to the timely scaling adopted by the platforms which was enabled by cloud infrastructure.
Amazon Web Services CEO Andy Jassy, during the first AWS summit, said that a lot of of things that have been helping in these times of crisis are running on top of AWS. AWS has been providing services to Zoom, Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime, Blackboard, Canvas and many more. Oracle Cloud Infrastructure recently partnered with Zoom to help with the growing scale problem.
For business leaders, the pandemic has highlighted the importance of having a robust cloud infrastructure to ensure uninterrupted business during times of a global crisis. Scalability, flexibility and remote data access are some of the most significant advantages businesses can avail from public cloud.
